Setting up NCEdCloud MFA with the 2FA Authenticator Chrome Extension

Prev Next

This guide walks you through setting up the 2FA Authenticator Chrome extension for your NCEdCloud account

  1. On your computer, install the 2FA Authenticator Chrome Extension in your browser. A direct link is included below. Please note that 2FA Authenticator is a free extension. If this extension is already installed, continue to the next step.

    1. Chrome Web Store: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/2FA%20Authenticator/gmohoglkppnemohbcgjakmgengkeaphi

  2. Attempt to log in to NCEdCloud as usual. If you have not previously configured MFA or if it has been reset by an administrator, you will see a QR code alongside a request to configure MFA.

Don't see a QR code? Contact your district's IT team to request a TOTP reset.

  1. In your browser’s toolbar toward the top right, click to open the 2FA Authenticator extension. You may need to click the puzzle piece icon to view installed extensions, then select Authenticator.

  1. After opening the 2FA Authenticator extension, click “Continue” below the “FREE (Unsecured)” heading. Note that this option stores your NCEdCloud MFA code only in the specific browser / device / user profile currently being used. Your code will only be available here going forward.

  1. Click “Scan QR Code” to scan the NCEdCloud MFA setup code in your browser.

  1. 2FA Authenticator will now display your NCEdCloud MFA code. This code will refresh every 30 seconds. Click the code to copy it and close the extension.

  1. Paste (or enter) the code from 2FA Authenticator into the bottom-most box on the NCEdCloud screen, then click “Go.” Setup is complete!

  1. Each time you sign in to NCEdCloud, you will be asked to enter the code currently displayed by 2FA Authenticator after entering your username and password. Keep in mind that you must always retrieve the current code from 2FA Authenticator from the same browser, device, and user profile that was used initially. On subsequent uses, you may need to select the “Free / Unsecured” option in the 2FA Authenticator extension again. Do not write down or save previously used codes. This keeps your account secure even if your username and password are compromised.
